Start procedures are fully detailed in the V8 Supercar Operations Manual. 
 
At any time not less than three (3) seconds and not more than five (5) seconds after the red light is shown, the start of the race will be indicated by the extinguishing of the red light. NOTE A green light may be displayed to indicate that the race has started. It is not compulsory to show such green lights. If the lights are not functioning, the National Flag will be used, being raised at the five (5) second mark, and dropped to indicate the start of the race.
